Apedale Valley Light Railway 2025

Kerr Stuart steam loco "Stanhope" leads a train into the station at Apedale.

The 2ft gauge railway in Apedale Community Country Park is currently only a few hundred metres long, but there are big plans to extend it further. Trains are hauled by either steam or diesel locomotives from the Moseley Railway Trust’s collection, depending on the day.

The coaches are also historically interesting – ranging from a replica of a coach used in a north Wales slate quarry to a more modern coach formerly operated on the famous Ffestiniog Railway. Some coaches are open and unheated – so if it is a cold day, wrap up warmly!

On days when steam locos are operating, they can arrange tours of the main loco shed, when visitors can see many of the Trust’s large collection of locomotives.
